How long should you rest a muscle group (ex. chest) before working that group again? - What is the minimum to avoid overworking the muscle group? or does it vary with a particular muscle group?

I competed in Division 1A track and field, and our general rule was that you needed 48 hours to be "fully" recovered. I've found that to be reasonable... Additionally, after lifting very hard for 3-5 weeks, it's good to take a nice easy week, where you only lift lightly once and go for a few jogs.

Hope this helps.
