This is what has helped me with that problem. (My optometrist suggested this). Have some warm water running from a tap, and either wet a face-cloth with the warm water or cup your hands together to gather some water and soak your eye. I just cup my hands together and try to get my eye into the warm water. I blink while my eye is in the water and repeat the step a few times. Somehow, it clears the film off and the itch usually goes away as well.
