I'm going to try and give the short answer here: When we eat, insulin is released into the bloodstream, This homone secreted by the pancreas encouages our muscles and tissues to eat up the glucose moving through the bloodstream after eating a meal. That's a good thing, because glucose hanging about in the bloodstream is dangerous. But insulin also stops the liver from releasing fat, a metabolic fuel into the bloodstream. Fats released as triglyderides are also dangerous if they hang around in the bloodstream. Fat in food becomes fat (triglycerides) in our blood. A diet high in carbohydrate (sugar and starches) and alcohol may also raise blood triglyceride levels.A HIGH TRIGLYCERIDE LEVEL is one risk factor associated with the development of heart disease. There are FOUR main reasons for high triglycerides: 1.OVERWEIGHT 2. A diet high in sugar and starches 3. A high alcohol intake 4. Stress I hope this helps S.
