Hey Gabs!
Here are some quick answers to your questions...I have to tend to my little one! First, a good thing to look into is getting a subscription to a fitness magazine, such as "Muscle & Fitness Hers" or "Oxygen". These are great motivation tools. I take my magazine and read it while doing cardio when it's early so that the time will go by quickly..but you have to make sure you are paying attention, gotta keep that heart rate steady for fat loss. These mags give you great diet ideas and different workouts, so that you won't be bored. My husband is a body-builder and reads "Flex" for tips when he gets bored with his diet.
As for lifting, this is my regimen...

Day #1: chest
Day #2: back
Day #3: legs
Day #4: arms
Day #5: shoulders

I do 4 or 5 different exercises for each muscle, 3 sets of 12-15...the trainer is right...go till you feel the burn.

I also do abs and calves everyday, for they are endurance muscles..
