I started the low-carb approach 11 days ago (I'm 60 lbs overweight), I was totally addicted to sugar. Had headaches for 2 days after cutting it out. Ive lost 19 pounds. Probably a lot of water, but after the sugar withdrawals subsided what Im eating keeps me more than satisfied. Your sugar level in your blood is whats causing your cravings (like nicotine in smokers). I used to reach for sugar for energy, but honestly I have so much more energy without it. A sugar "fix" is only temporary (blood levels drop again and you feel crappy). I use atkins & other low-carb brands of bars & snacks that totally satisfy my sweet tooth. I am absolutely sticking to it, I really do feel so much better. I think the hardest part was giving away all the crap in my house, so it wouldn't be around when a craving hit. GIVE IT ALL AWAY, ALL OF IT! The theory is basic, there are alternative snacks that will satisfy you. When compared to what I spent on my sugar addiction this is actually cheaper. My shopping list is pretty specific, so I don't wander the aisles letting advertisers and sugar-pushers (folks intersted in money and not the destruction of our society)get to me. I watch friends who consume HUNDREDS of carbs a day and complain about their problems. I used to do the same thing, now theres not much to complain about. I feel great, have learned what I was doing to my body's systems, and will continue to eat healthy for life. You should try it, like I said the first 2 days are hard, but you will have a surge of energy that just wont quit. I wake up refreshed, early every day and that I haven't done in years. I started with the under 20 carbs plan, but I've noticed I can be easily satisfied with less than 5. The pounds keep falling off! |
