I found that there are several ways to help lose weight and keep it off.

1) Only eat when you are actually hungry, not when it is time to eat. I found the less emphasis I put on food, the easier it was to control eating. Eating many small meals raises your metabolism throughout the day. Also try not to eat while in front of the tv. You will end up eating way more than you realize.

2) Eat smaller meals when you are less active. Dinner should actually be the smallest meal unless you are more active at night.

3) Do not try to cut out foods, just limit them. If you love chocolate, buy some lowfat chocolate milk or have a small piece of chocolate as a treat once in a while. Limit the amount of these foods you have around, while have healthy sustitutes readily available (such as baby carrots, fruit, yogurt). Never go shopping hungry!!

4) Be active & upbeat. Exercise throughout the day by taking the stairs or going for short walks after meals. Even being social helps raise your metabolism. Also keep yourself busy to prevent eating because you are bored.

5) Exercise as often as you can, but dont take it too fast. It is better to do 10mins a day everyday than two hours once a week. Also make it interesting by choosing activities you like(biking, swimming, dance) and make sure to add variety. Mixing different activities actually will burn more calories in the long run and prevent you from getting bored.

6) Set several reasonable goals and find something to motivate you. Whenever you fall off track, it will help to keep you going. Treat yourself with something when you attain each goal. Most of all, be honest with yourself and make sure you treat your body with respect. Being healthy is much more important than being skinny.
