I have a master in Health and a bacholers in Kinesiology and through my studies it takes more energy to digest carbs then it does fat, you will burn about 15% when consuming carbs then you would fat through the digestion process. When you consume sugar, starches the body uses them as energy and in order to store them as fat they have to be processed through the liver and convert the energy into storable lipids thus losing another 15% of the calories in the carbs just in the process of converting it into storable energy. Now as for fat, fat is the most easiest of the three (protien, carbs, fat) to digest and to store. Since fat doesn't have to be converted it goes straight to your fat cells, thus maintaining about 90% of what you consumed in fat. Now on the skim milk I know what you are talking about, but you are forgeting that skim milk has more protien then whole, and reduced fat milk. That added protin almost makes up 100% in the difference in calories. Protien is very important for your matabolism, protien is what builds up muscles that make up your matabolism that allows you to burn that fat, and keep your muscle mass. Don't be fooled into thinking just it has the same amount of calories as a product that has more fat, that you are going to consume the same amount of energy, the body is a very complex machine. There are many things involved when it comes to fat storage and fat burning. Sure no matter what you eat if you don't burn it off it will be stored as fat, but it takes a lot more energy for your body to convert protien and carbs to storable lipids. Stick with low fat even if the calories are the same hope this helps answer your question. |
