Msg for Lynda Smith, I too have large calves as I used to be a sprinter. After years of hating them and asking MANY people, physical instructors, doctors, (asked them to put me in plaster for several weeks to reduce the muscle (but they wouldn't as this is unethical). Even enquired about some form of plastic surgery to reduce the muscle (which may I add there isn't). So, I know exactly how you feel.

My personal experience is that jogging on the treadmill will NOT make your calves any bigger, it will only make them more toned. Make sure though that when you are running, that you run HEEL-TOE, (especially running up hills) and keep the speed at a steady pace so that you are using the hamstrings more so than the calves (for power ie: TOE-HEEL), otherwise yes they will build.

Don't do anything else like calf raises etc (unless you want to emphasise the shape more so (but this can make them bigger). Unfortunately, the only other way to 'reduce' muscle in the calves is not to use them at all which in my experience is not only impossible, makes it worse as they then appear to be flabby.

Big calves can look great though and you would be amazed at the amount of blokes that actually really like them - I'm afraid that's all the advice that I can offer :-)

I’m no expert though and if anyone out there knows of anyway wat-so-ever to reduce calves then please advise :-)
