First off, if one is going to make the argument that no other species drinks another's milk, let's think about why milk exists. It's meant to provide babies with a decent source of nutrition as their bodies are growing. That's it. But, since cow's milk happens to be a decent source of calcium, we drink it and enjoy it. As long as that species argument is being made, let's not forget that soy and rice products come from species as well. Hell, any natural thing you eat comes from another species, lest we forget the Phylum system as laid out by Linneaus. Second, Soy is an incredible plant. It is high in protein and adding it to your diet is a respected preventative measure against cancer...if there were a scale with anti-carcinogens on one side and protein inhibitors on the other, I'd probably choose the anti-carcinogen, but that's just me, if cancer floats your boat, more power to ya. Third, there are several things that one should never feed to infants, because of the enzymes with which a newborn body has trouble dealing. Bovine dairy and honey are on this list for that reason. Additionally, many babies have dairy allergies, my younger sister did. When she was older, she didn't have any issue digesting milk, but because she had lived with out it for so long, drinking it plain is now unpleasant to her. We don't need cow's milk to survive, but it doesn't really harm the human species as a whole, either. If it's hormones you're worried about, buy organic milk. If you don't want to drink "another species milk" buy soy or rice milk that can be found in a nice variety of flavors. Fourth, I agree, comparing dairy consumption to Rape and Murder is ridiculous. Morality is an arguable concept to boot. |
