Staying Flu and Cold-free at the Gym

During the flu season achieving optimal health poses many risks. Particularly at the health club, colds and viruses run rampant from autumn through spring time. Working out at the gym calls for several preventative measures. With all the sniffing, sneezing and coughing, the average fitness center is a breeding ground for many germs.

Fortunately, there are other alternatives to staying fit and avoiding germs at the gym. Aside from the usual suspects, a bottle of antibacterial cleaner and a face masks use these tactics to stay healthy at the health club.

Avoid the Infected
Steer clear of individuals who are blowing their nose, coughing and sneezing. In rooms where ventilation is impaired, germs can travel fast. For example, when someone sneezed or coughs without covering their mouth, microbes can be released to another person.

Bring Your Own Gear
Instead of using towels or the exercise mat at the gym, bring your own. Carry two workout towels fitness center. One should be used to wipe down the cardio equipment and weight-training. The other towel can be used to wipe off your perspiration. Also, weight-training gloves are a good way to avoid germs; however they should be washed between each use with a sanitizer.

Sanitize your hands
After the use of any fitness equipment, wash hands frequently and thoroughly in hot water. Whenever soapy water is unavailable use products like Purell's antibacterial cleaning agent. Be sure to sanitize hands for a minimum of 15 seconds.

Stay at Home
In cases where you are not feeling up to par, consider staying at home until you are not contagious any more. But if you're feeling healthy enough to work out, exercise at home until you?re feeling 99.5 percent.
